An experimental investigation of the double ionization of hydrogen sulphide to triplet electronic states of the dication

A double-charge-transfer spectroscopy study of hydrogen sulphide has been carried out, and six double-ionization energies to various electronic states of H2S2+ measured. Because of the conservation of spin multiplicity in the double-charge-transfer reactions which are central to this type of spectroscopy, and the use of OH+ as the projectile ion, triplet states of H2S2+ were populated. This was confirmed by the good agreement between the measured double-ionization energies and published calculated values for transitions to triplet states of H2S2+.
