Variational Rayleigh iteration

A variational approach to the solution of the linear equation problem (H-E1)2x=y is described, and applied to the interior eigenvalue problem for a quantum mechanical Hamiltonian matrix. Test calculations using large basis sets for a two-dimensional Schrِdinger equation give promising results.
