Abstract :
A recent spectral assignment of the optical absorption spectra of Rh(II) in a NaCl lattice is initially analyzed. Additional support is offered for the interpretation of the single absorption peak in the visible spectrum as being due to the combined ligand field transition 2T2g, 2T1g → 2Eg(2A1) where the spatially degenerate are characterized by a negligible Jahn-Teller effect.
