Abstract
Fluorescence excitation spectra and fluorescence decay profiles of the V 1B2 state, especially the 6V and 10V band regions, of gaseous CS2 were observed under external magnetic fields from 0 to 10 T. From measurements of fluorescence excitation spectra, the fluorescence of both regions was almost completely quenched by a field of 10 T and the magnetic quenching of the 6V band region was larger than that of the 10V one. In both regions, the fluorescence decay profiles changed from “the intermediate case” to “the statistical limit” as the field was increased from 0 to 10 T. These experimental results were interpreted by the magnetically induced radiationless transition due to the direct mechanism.
