Abstract :
Conventional pulse NMR uses the nuclear polarization due to the Boltzmann distribution, which is of the order of 10−5 for protons at room temperature in typical magnetic fields. About five orders of magnitude in sensitivity can therefore be gained if polarization of the order of 100% is achieved by other means. We report the first detection of free induction decay signals of protons from a polarized cyclotron beam implanted into liquid D2O and Br2. Possible applications are discussed.
