On the distinction between scalar and spin–orbit relativistic effects

We analyze three different ways of obtaining a spin-free Dirac equation and demonstrate that the resulting spin-free Dirac equations have different eigenvalues and eigenvectors. This means that the conventional division between scalar and spin–orbit relativistic effects is arbitrary and depends on the method of separation.
