Photoluminescence of trimeric palladium(II) acetate in solution

Trimeric Pd(II) acetate shows a photoluminescence in solution at λmax=475 and 595 nm. It is suggested that this emission originates from a dσ∗→pσ excited state which involves the metal–metal interaction in the triangular (PdII)3 moiety. The luminescence of Pd3(acetate)6 is assigned to a phosphorescence (λmax=595 nm) as well as a fluorescence (λmax=475 nm).
