Abstract :
By comparing nuclear spin relaxation rates detected via EPR linewidth variations for La@C82 and Sc@C82, the nuclear quadrupole interaction of the scandium endohedral fullerene was determined as eQq/(I(21−1)h)=0.5(2) MHz. This small value could indicate that the oxidation state of the central ion is equal for both molecules in contrast to theoretical predictions.
