Photo-induced charge separation on conjugated porphyrin chains

Photoexcitation of isolated conjugated chains of butadiyne-linked porphyrins ([−P-≡−≡−]n with n ≈ 10) in dilute solution in benzene is followed by intrachain charge separation. The product of the quantum-yield and the effective one-dimensional mobility of the ion-pair state formed, φΣμ1D, is 6 × 10−8 m2/V s and the first half-life is ca. 100 ns.
