Abstract :
Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) from bare roughened Fe electrodes was observed by confocal Raman microscopy for the first time. The combination of SERS and STM measurements indicates that a proper surface-roughening procedure is indispensable for obtaining good-quality surface Raman spectra from bare bulk Fe electrodes. The surface-enhancement factors for various roughened Fe surfaces were calculated to range from two to three orders, critically depending on the roughening procedure. The lightning rod effect may mainly contribute the surface-enhancement on the Fe surfaces.
