Abstract :
The 2s 3S + 1s 1S dissociation threshold of He2 was probed by means of a technique based on the use of a fast He2+ ion beam and charge exchange processes with alkaline vapor. Measurement of the kinetic energy spectrum confirmed the known barrier tunneling of the c 3Σg+ state to this dissociation limit and put forth signs of a competition between radiative decay and predissociation processes for highly excited states of He2.
