Local field change of dipole near a surface: a rigorous image theory

Local field changes of an excited electric dipole near a surface is studied in a rigorous way where the surface reflection is accounted for as a function of the angular spectrum in the surface plane. The rigorousness enables us, without resorting to an approximate reflection coefficient, to properly include the evanescent field contribution when the dipole-surface distance is far less than the wavelength.
