Abstract :
Photoabsorption and fluorescence cross sections of SnCl4 and Sn(CH3)4 have been measured in the 6–31 eV region by using synchrotron radiation. Bands above 8 eV observed in the photoabsorption and fluorescence excitation spectra of SnCl4 have been assigned as the (np, 4d) ← 1t1, (4s, np, 4d) ← 3t2, np ← 1e and (4s, 4p) ← 2t2 Rydberg transitions where n = 4−6, whereas the bands observed from Sn(CH3)4 were too broad to assign. For SnCl4, strong emissions produced by 10.9 eV radiation have been assigned to the A1B1-X1A1 and 3B1-X1A1 transitions of the SnCl2 radical, while several Sn I lines were observed by 21.5 eV radiation. In the fluorescence excitation spectrum of Sn(CH3)4, a band attributable to Sn I lines was observed in the 18–23 eV region.
