Abstract :
The reaction C(3PJ)+O2(X3Σg−)→CO(X1Σ+)+O(1D2) has been studied with pulsed, crossed, supersonic molecular beams in the range of relative translational energies ET=0.41–12.0 kJ/mol. C(3PJ) reactant and O(1D2) product have been detected by laser-induced fluorescence in the vacuum ultra-violet. Relative integral cross-sections have been found proportional to (ET)−1.00±0.03 below ET=6 kJ/mol, indicating that the reaction proceeds without any threshold energy.
