The trans (1E) isomer of the formohydroxamic acid is identified for the first time and the population ratio of the trans (1E) and cis (1Z) isomers is estimated to be 0.035±0.009 in the gas phase at room temperature on the basis of the matrix infrared isolation spectroscopy.
