Abstract :
The dielectric properties of a strongly coupled electron–photon system have attracted much interest recently due to the rapid development of terahertz (THz) radiation sources. The electronic and dielectric properties of an electron gas under intense THz radiation can be studied using transport and optical methods. Here we study the energy loss rate of a heavy particle in the system. The dielectric function is constructed using the time-dependent wavefunctions obtained under unitary transformation. The rate of energy loss due to the dielectric function of the system is calculated and an interesting dependence on frequency and intensity is obtained. It is found that scattering by the electrons is greatly reduced when electrons are strongly coupled to the radiation field.
