Abstract :
Liposomes of the acidic phospholipid, l-α-dimyristoylphosphatidic acid (DMPA), were prepared via suitable pH modification of its aqueous solution at 40 °C. Transition electron microscopy (TEM) verified the presence of hollow lipid vesicles. Through adsorption of the polyelectrolyte poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) onto negatively charged DMPA liposomes we found that such surface-modified liposomes cannot be destroyed by the detergent, sodium dodecyl sulfonate (SDS). Thus polymer-stabilized liposomes are obtained.
