Abstract :
The temperature dependence of resistivity of Mn100−xCox (with x=0.01, 0.05, 1 and 2 at.%) thermally evaporated thin films has been studied between 1.4 and 300 K. The resistivity–temperature behaviour of the films ranges from that typical of the bulk α-Mn to that regarded as typical of a metallic alloy glass with a negative temperature coefficient of resistivity at room temperature, as x is increased from 0.01 to 2 at.%. The Néel points of the alloys, determined by the model of Craig and Goldburg, reveal a shift to upper values as the concentration of Co is increased. For 1 at.% Co in Mn and above, an antiferromagnetic transition is not observed. The low temperature resistivity of the samples studied may be explained by the Kondo effect.
