Abstract :
A layered manganese oxide nanocomposite (LMON) with lysine-intercalated between manganese oxide sheets was synthesized by a delamination/reassembling process. The obtained product was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), elemental analysis, thermal analysis, IR spectrum analysis, and SEM observation. The intercalation behavior of lysine molecules into the interlayer was also investigated. The formation of the LMON nanocomposite depended on the pH of the solution and the amount of lysine molecules inserted. LMON nanocomposite with a basal spacing of 1.24 nm was obtained at pH between 4.0 and 10. While a layered structure with a basal spacing of 0.72 nm that was similar to that of the precursor BirMO(H) was kept when pH of the solution was below 3.5 or above 11.
