Abstract :
Several foams can be stabilized by particles, such as products of the food industry, ceramic foam slurries and metal foams. We investigated the role of PVC (poly-vinyl-chloride) particles during foaming of water–ethanol mixture in order to get a closer look of the particle stabilization effect. Using stepped ethanol concentrations we changed the contact angle between the liquid mixture and the PVC particles. The surface tensions of the compounds were determined by pendant-drop method. Foams were created by a gas blowing method, using a porous ceramic as a foam generator. The best foamabilities were achieved without any ethanol in the system.
