Abstract
SmCo5 magnetic nanoparticles have been prepared by using Sm(acac)3 and Co(acac)2 as the precursors via chemical route. The use of a long chain 1,2-hexadecanediol is for reducing the metal acetylacetonate to metal in the presence of oleic acid and oleylamine as stabilizers. The autoclave used here provides high temperature and high pressure for the reaction. The SmCo5 magnetic nanoparticles have been characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer (SEM-EDX) and X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD). Magnetization measurement of the nanoparticles exhibits ferromagnetism by superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID).
