Abstract
Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) intended for high temperature applications often are manufactured by atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) of stabilized zirconia. The bond layer between metal and ceramic usually is a sprayed metallic coating and the thermal barrier reliability is influenced by the behaviour of the substrate–bond layer and the bond layer–ceramic interfaces.
s paper, interest is focused on the means for non-destructive characterization of damage to the interface during thermal cycles by using acoustic emission (AE) and ultrasonic imaging (UI).
