Biomedical investigations on CNx coating

This paper reviews the new development of carbon–nitride (C–N) coating and its biomedical applications. Based on the brief review of CN films structure and it excellent mechanical properties, chemical inertness and toxic-compound-free compositions, the various synthesis techniques on CN coatings are introduced. Then the paper focuses on introducing the biomedical applications on CN films in orthopedic, hemocompatibility as well as biomacromolecule adsorption. The comparison between CN and diamond-like carbon (DLC) is also discussed.
