Abstract
Arc-added glow plasma depositing process is a new surface alloying method. Using this technique, a multi-layer film of Ti–Cr was coated on magnesium alloy AZ91 to improve the corrosion resistance of this material. The composition and microstructure of the coating layer had been analyzed by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and glow discharge spectrum (GDS), and the surface morphology of the film had been surveyed through scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). The surface micro-hardness was measured. The adhesion strength between film and matrix had been tested by ways of both thermal shocking and sticking-tearing. The corrosion behavior of the coated samples had also been evaluated through neutral salt spray test.
