Abstract :
Damages of coatings for C/C–SiC brake disks during installation and operation threaten the safety of flight. The repair of these damages at low temperatures is crucial in terms of economy. In this contribution, we were trying to fabricate the protective coatings on the C/C–SiC composites at room temperature. The coatings consist of three layers: a borosilicate glass inner layer, a bismuth glass middle layer, and a lead glass outer layer. The oxidation tests indicated that the weight loss of the coated samples was greatly reduced compared to the ones without coatings in air at 400 °C and 700 °C. The weight loss of the samples was only 1.60% when the coated samples were subjected to thermal shock from 700 °C to room temperature in air for 50 cycles. Not only is this process a low-temperature coating preparation method but it can also be developed to be an in-field repair technology for C/C–SiC brake disks.
