Abstract :
The photochromic diarylethene, 1,2-bis(2-methyl-5-(2-(1,3-dithiolpentane))-thien-3-yl)perfluorocyclopentene (BMDTP), has been synthesized in high yield and its structure was determined by X-ray crystallographic analysis. The compound undergoes a photochromic reaction both in solution and in the single crystalline phase. In addition, its fluorescence property in solution is discussed.
