Abstract :
Reaction of nitric oxide (NO) with p-substituted benzyl triphenylphosphonium chlorides or bromides (Wittig reagents) in CH2Cl2 under argon undergoes electrophilic attack of NO on the carbon center of phosphonium ylides, producing benzonitriles.
