A concise synthesis of the functionalised cyclopentane unit in the antitumoural antibiotic viridenomycin

A concise seven-step synthesis of the cyclopentane unit in viridenomycin, which uses a regio- and stereo-selective rhodium catalysed intramolecular C–H insertion reaction as the key step, is described.
