Abstract :
The reaction of indoloazepines 1 and α,β-unsaturated aldehydes in reflux toluene led to tetracyclic compounds 2. The key to this reaction was an intramolecular Diels–Alder cycloaddition by the indoloacrylate (dienophile)–dienamine (diene) intermediates generated in situ.
