Abstract :
Alcohols in small peptides, monosaccharides and steroids (12 examples) are conveniently transformed to their corresponding nitrate esters upon treatment with an acetonitrile solution of LiNO3 and trifluoroacetic anhydride. The in situ formed mixed anhydride (CF3COONO2) is proposed to be the reactive nitration reagent.
