Abstract
N-Phenylsulfenylimines derived from aliphatic, aromatic and heteroaromatic aldehydes act as nucleophilic partners in the Staudinger reaction with acetoxyacetyl chloride. Disubstituted-β-lactams are obtained with a surprisingly high trans diastereoselection (up to 99%).
