Evaluation of Intellectual Capital Performance Using Balanced Scorecard Model; The Case of Kar-Afarin Insurance in Kashan

The dominance of knowledge-based organizations is evident nowadays. The real wealth of organizations includes deployment and utilization of skilled and superior manpower, knowledge and skills of this people, internal processes and procedures, within the organizational culture, fame and reputation among customers and stakeholders, in other words, invisible assets and intellectual capitals. These assets are not reflected in the balance sheet but, at the same time, have significant effects on the performance of the organization. As such, this issue requires the attention of top management. Since traditional assessment methods are not capable to measure these types of financial assets, the organizations need appropriate tools and models to check the performance of these funds. One of these models is called balanced scorecard. The present study reviews the theoretical concepts of intellectual capital and the balanced scorecard and using balanced scorecard model, tries to measure the performance of intellectual capital in the Central Insurance Company. For this purpose, the required information was collected through a questionnaire containing measures of intellectual capital in the model. After that and using statistical techniques and software, the research questions were answered. The results indicated that the performance was not desirable at four dimensions of customer, internal processes, development and financial issues. Then, required strategies and suggestions to improve the intellectual capital of the organization were suggested thereof.
