Abstract
Following article has tried to present clear picture of Iran production and export of different kinds of decorative stones in 2012 and our position in global markets. Given the importance of the subject and with regard to official statistics, export of stone in this article has been considered in terms of both raw and processed stones through relevant tables and diagrams. Survey shows that peak seasons for stone export’s activities are summer, and fall; however lack of proper and long term planning to fulfill both local and global demand in these seasons causes Iran’s share in global market to decrease.
In recent years, appreciation of foreign currency has created a great opportunity for Iran marble industries to increase the export. However due to some limitations including international sanction, this opportunity has been missed. In order to take the most advantage of this golden opportunity marble exporter should pay more attention to the target market and try to make their product more appealing to them. Having effective and long term export planning for sustainable export is essential. The final section discusses about status of successful countries in export of stone as well as Iran’s position in this market.
