Promoting racial equality in the nursing curriculum

Racial inequality in nursing is not a new concern and no doubt some nurses have and are still making stringent efforts singularly or through various organisations to address this issue. This paper outlines the current position within the context of racial equality, the objectives of nurse education and proposes how equal opportunities and anti-racist strategies could be instrumental in promoting equality in the nursing profession. tions are also made as to what contents could be added to existing ones to produce nurse practitioners who are able to respond appropriately and sensitively to the health needs of a diverse client group. Methods of evaluating the effectiveness of equal opportunities and anti-racist strategies within the curriculum are also discussed.
