Abstract
The reaction of pentaerythritol tribromide with ethylenediamine under strongly basic conditions leads to the quadridentate ligand 1,1-bis(2-aminoethylaminomethyl)-ethene (2), which is easily purified by formation and chromatographic separation of its Co(III) complex, trans-[Co(2)Cl2]Cl·H2O.
