Abstract :
5-(Bromoalkylidene)furan-2(5H)-ones, thiophen-2(5H)-ones, and pyrrol-2(5H)-ones are prepared in good yields by cleavage of the corresponding 2-acyl-5-methoxy heterocycles using oxalyl bromide in dichloromethane at ambient temperature.
