Liver transplantation after coronary artery bypass grafting

In summary, 12 patients are described who had LT after CABG. Nine of them had normal hepatic function at the time of LT and cirrhosis was precipitated by hepatitis C virus in 7 of the 9 patients. Because of the present policy of testing blood for hepatitis C before transfusion and because of the small numbers of blood transfusions now given at the time of CABG, it is predicted that LT after CABG will be much less of a problem in the future. Liver transplantation can be a life-saving procedure for serious hepatic dysfunction developing late after CABG.
