Abstract :
Carbon nanostructures (the fullerenes and the carbon nanotubes) have become increasingly important during the last 15 years concerning both their basic physical and chemical properties as well as potential applications. In order to gain a basic understanding of the electronic properties of carbon nanostructures a wealth of experimental and theoretical studies has been performed world-wide. In this review, a summary of experimental studies of the electronic structure of carbon nanostructures using high-energy spectroscopies such as photoemission and electron energy-loss spectroscopy is presented and discussed.
