Abstract :
We studied the collision-induced light scattering spectrum of tetramethyltin, Sn(CH3)4, in the gas phase. The spectra are analyzed in view of the dipole–quadrupole (A) and dipole–octopole polarizability (E) giving ∣A∣ = 149(5) au and ∣E∣ = 780(200) au. We show that these experimental results are in reasonable agreement with bond-polarizability considerations.
