Abstract :
Long path length FTIR-smog chamber techniques were used to measure k(Cl + t-CF3CHCHF) = (4.64 ± 0.59) × 10−11, k(OH + t-CF3CHCHF) = (9.25 ± 1.72) × 10−13, and k(O3 + t-CF3CHCHF) = (2.81 ± 0.21) × 10−21 cm3 molecule−1 s−1 in 700 Torr of air diluent at 296 K. The atmospheric lifetime of t-CF3CHCHF is determined by its reaction with OH and is approximately two weeks. t-CF3CHCHF has an integrated IR absorption cross section(650–2000 cm−1) of (1.94 ± 0.10) × 10−16 cm molecule−1 and a global warming potential of approximately 6 (100-year time horizon). As part of this work the reaction of ozone with C2H4 was determined to proceed with a rate constant of (1.46 ± 0.13) × 10−18 cm3 molecule−1 s−1 in 700 Torr of air at 296 K.
