Abstract :
The heat of transfer used in thermodynamics of irreversible processes for the calculation of the thermal diffusion factor is the heat transported across a given reference plane at uniform temperature. The theory proposed here suggests that the heat of transfer is a fraction of the latent heat of fusion of a diluted component in a binary melt. This fraction can be expressed by the ratio of the mean molar volume of both components to the molar volume of the diluted component. The calculated values have been compared with the results of published experiments with tin alloys in micro-gravity and show good agreement.
