Abstract
Occupied and unoccupied electronic states formed by adsorption of benzene on Cu(1 1 0) have been measured by one- and two-photon photoemission spectroscopy. An occupied state found at −2.2 eV relative to the Fermi level (EF) was not dispersive either along the surface normal nor parallel directions. An unoccupied state was found at 0.5 eV above EF. The lifetime of electrons in the state was about 120 fs. The occupied and unoccupied states are formed by hybridization of π-electrons with large contributions of metal electrons.
