Abstract :
Long path length FTIR/smog chamber techniques were used to study the kinetics of the reactions of Cl atoms and OH radicals with CF3CBrCH2 and CF3CF2CBrCH2 in 700 Torr of N2 or air diluent at 296 ± 2 K. The reactions proceed with rate constants of k(Cl + CF3CBrCH2) = (9.20 ± 0.54) × 10−11, k(OH + CF3CBrCH2) = (4.21 ± 0.45) × 10−12, k(Cl + CF3CF2CBrCH2) = (8.44 ± 0.51) × 10−11, and k(OH + CF3CF2CBrCH2) = (3.48 ± 0.34) × 10−12 cm3 molecule−1 s−1. The atmospheric lifetimes of CF3CBrCH2 and CF3CF2CBrCH2 are approximately 2.8 and 3.4 days, respectively. These compounds will not contribute significantly to radiative forcing of climate change.
