Linear and nonlinear optical properties of disperse red dyes in poly-(cyano phenylene sulfide)

Here, we report linear and nonlinear optical properties of azo dye, disperse red 1 (DR1) doped with an amorphous ferroelectric polymer, poly-(cyano phenylene sulfide) (PCPS) developed in our previous study. Our experimental results proved that the materials exhibit second-order nonlinear optical activities by depositing thin films on gold-coated substrates without conventional poling procedures. A long-range polar order for DR1 extended at least as wide as 70 nm from the Au surfaces.
