Abstract :
A simple wet chemical method has been successfully used to fabricate very thin and ultra long ZnO nanoplates. Well crystalline ZnO nanoplates were formed as revealed from the X-ray diffraction pattern, field emission scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopic images. The nanoplates are stacked together due to electrostatic interaction between various polar facets of ZnO nanocrystals. FTIR spectrum revealed the Zn–O stretching band at 501 cm−1. The nanoplates exhibit excitonic UV emission at ∼383. This UV emission is superimposed with the shallow level emission at ∼438 nm.
