Abstract
Effect of 1-butyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium chloride [bdmim][Cl], a trisubstituted ionic liquid on the critical micelle concentration (cmc) of sodium dodecylsulphate (SDS) in aqueous medium have been studied using conductometry from 298.15 to 318.15 K and pyrene fluorescence probe analysis at 298.15 K. Temperature and ionic liquid concentration dependent variation in cmc been discussed pertaining to the changes in degree of dissociation (α) and thermodynamic parameters viz. standard free energy ( Δ G m ° ) and entropy ( Δ S m ° ) of micellization. NMR studies of post-micellar solutions have been carried out to understand the various intermolecular interactions present in these systems.
