Abstract :
We evaluate the enhancement factor of the effective mass, m∗/m, for polarons in a crystal composed of either the E ⊗ e or the T ⊗ t Jahn–Teller (JT) centers in the strong-coupling region. A much larger m∗/m is found in the T ⊗ t JT polarons than that in the E ⊗ e ones. This difference originates from the absence/presence of rotational symmetry in the pseudospin space representing the degeneracy of orbitals at each JT center.
