Coordination polymers formed by sharing rectangular units: [M(L1)2(NO3)2]∞ {M = Cd, Co; L1 = (3-py)CHNC10H6NCH(3-py)}

Two coordination polymers [Cd(L1)2(NO3)2]∞ (1) and [Co(L1)2(NO3)2]∞ (2) were prepared from the long 3,3′-bispyridine-type ligand L1 {(3-py)CHNC10H6NCH(3-py)} and the corresponding metal nitrate. These polymers have different rectangular units: Cd 4 L 4 1 and Co 2 L 2 1 . Whereas the Cd 4 L 4 1 units are linked by edge-sharing to give a 2-dimensional polymer (1), the Co 2 L 2 1 units are linked by vertex-sharing to produce a double-bridged 1-D chain polymer (2).
