Abstract :
Symmetrically substituted dimercuro-ferracarborane commo-(3-Fe-{1,2-C2B9H9-4-SMe2-12-HgCl}2) (1) was synthesized and its structure was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The molecule adopts a staggered sandwich structure with the dicarbollide ligands forming cisoid conformation. Strong intermolecular interactions Hg…C1 and S…Cl lead to formation of 1D chains {commo-(3-Fe-{1,2-C2B9H9-4-SMe2-12-HgCl}2)}∞.
