Abstract :
The reaction of 1-aminoadamantane hydrochloride and 18-crown-6 with divalent metal chloride in methanol solution yield two unusual supramolecular compounds, ( C 10 H 18 N ) 2 + · [ CoCl 4 ] 2 - · [ C 12 H 24 O 6 ] · H 2 O (1) and ( C 10 H 18 N ) 2 + · [ Cu 2 Cl 6 ] 2 - · 2 [ C 12 H 24 O 6 ] (2). Their crystal structures have been determined by X-ray crystallography. Both supramolecular networks are composed of (C10H18N)+ cations, divalent metal chloride polyhedral anions and 18-crown-6 molecules. The rotator–stator assemblies, [(C10H18N)·(18-crown-6)]+, were formed by the adamantan-1-aminium cations inserting into the crown ether through N–H⋯O hydrogen-bond interactions. The two different anions lead to large discrepancy in the network structures. Dielectric constants of both compounds were measured at different temperatures and frequencies.
